Cognizant to Start Temporary Operations in Vizag from Jan 26

IT major Cognizant will begin temporary operations in Visakhapatnam on January 26 as part of its Andhra Pradesh expansion, according to official sources.

The company’s permanent campus at Kapuluppada, being developed on 22.18 acres, had its foundation stone laid on December 12, 2025, by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh. On the same day, Cognizant also inaugurated its temporary office in the Mahathi block, Hill-2.

Officials said the temporary facility will begin with about 800 employees. Cognizant has reportedly issued internal transfer orders for about 500 employees from other states, while another 300 senior staff members have already been relocated to the city.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar has indicated that 4,500 more employees are ready to relocate. The company earlier planned to generate 8,000 jobs in phases, but the target is now expected to rise significantly after discussions with the State government. Sources said the Chief Minister encouraged scaling up to 25,000 jobs, and Cognizant has agreed to work towards that goal.

Industry experts believe this expansion could transform Vizag’s IT ecosystem within 3–4 years if the projected scale is achieved.

Meanwhile, Capgemini and RNZ are reportedly in discussions to set up operations in Visakhapatnam, with a possible announcement expected soon, potentially from Davos.

In another major development, TCS is also preparing to enter Vizag. Sources said TCS may lay the foundation stone and open its temporary office in February, with Millennium Towers-2 (two blocks) being readied for about 3,000 employees. The company has reportedly completed GST registration and installed signage. The State has allocated 21.70 acres at Hill-3 for TCS’s permanent campus.
