Collector launches Poshan Pakhwada

District Collector M. Abhishek Kishore on Thursday launched the eighth edition of Poshan Pakhwada, to be observed from April 9 to 23, by unveiling a poster at his chamber here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kishore said the initiative aims to bring about positive changes in the lifestyle of children during their formative years. He underscored the importance of the first 1,000 days, from pregnancy till a child turns two, describing it as a critical window for physical and cognitive development. Ensuring proper nutrition and care during this period would have a lasting impact on a child’s future, he said.

The Collector noted that the programme seeks to promote awareness among families and communities on healthy practices, while encouraging people’s participation in the form of a Jan Andolan. Special emphasis has been laid this year on the role of fathers, highlighting the need for shared parental responsibility in child care.

A series of activities will be organised at anganwadi centres and at the community level as part of the campaign. These include awareness drives on maternal and child nutrition under the theme “Suposhit Janani – Swasth Shishu”, workshops for fathers, and “Super Dad” recipe competitions.

Efforts will also be made to promote healthy dietary habits through initiatives such as street plays to sensitise people to the ill effects of packaged foods, and campaigns like “Swap the Snack”.

For children in the 3–6 age group, programmes such as “Khel-Se-Seekh”, “Toy-a-thon”, and “Story Time with Papa” will be conducted to encourage learning and mental development.

Mr. Kishore called for community support in reducing screen time among children and strengthening anganwadi centres. He directed officials to ensure effective implementation of the programme.

Women and Child Welfare Department Project Director Ramalakshmi and other officials were present.
