Compassionate appointments reflect government’s humane approach: Minister

Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Saturday said the coalition government’s decision to provide compassionate appointments to 287 eligible candidates within 18 months reflects its commitment to employee welfare and support for bereaved families.

Speaking at a review meeting on power sector works at the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited training centre in Visakhapatnam, the Minister said the initiative was intended to ensure timely livelihood assistance to families of employees who died in service. He distributed appointment letters to beneficiaries and reiterated that the government would continue to stand by affected families.

Mr. Ravi Kumar said the government was pursuing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and consumer welfare in the electricity sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He said the focus was on strengthening the power distribution system without placing any additional financial burden on consumers.

He said habitations and tribal hamlets that remain unelectrified are being covered through solar power solutions to ensure electricity access for every household.

Highlighting agriculture as a priority sector, the Minister directed officials to expedite electricity connections to agricultural pump sets and ensure timely power supply to eligible farmers. He reviewed works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and instructed officials to complete Phase I projects quickly to facilitate the rollout of Phase II.

The Minister stressed the importance of safety, strict monitoring, improved service delivery, and greater transparency to strengthen public trust in the power sector.
