DCIL launches world’s first 12,000 m³ Beagle Series dredger at Cochin

Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) marked a global milestone on Thursday. The company launched its latest vessel, Dredge Godavari, at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). DCIL operates under a consortium of four major ports: Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Deendayal (Kandla), and Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva).

The Dredge Godavari is the world’s first 12,000 m³ Beagle Series dredger. It sets a new benchmark in dredging efficiency, precision, and environmental sustainability. CSL built the vessel in collaboration with international design and technology experts. The dredger features advanced automation, efficient dredging mechanisms, and enhanced safety systems.

Dr. Madhaiyaan Angamuthu, Chairman of DCIL (VPA & Mumbai Port Trust), called the launch a proud moment for India’s maritime sector. He said the milestone reflects DCIL’s commitment to advancing indigenous dredging capabilities and fostering innovation. “It contributes to India’s emergence as a global maritime power,” he added.

Currently, DCIL handles around 60 million cubic metres of dredging annually, half of the national total. With Dredge Godavari, the company’s capacity will rise to 80 million cubic metres. The vessel strengthens both the fleet and operational efficiency.

This launch reinforces DCIL’s mission to expand India’s dredging capacity. It also supports port-led infrastructure growth and promotes sustainable maritime practices. The project aligns with Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
