DIG reviews probe into Kasibugga temple stampede
Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gopinath Jatti said that the investigation into the stampede at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga is underway, and efforts are on to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
In view of the misinformation circulating on social media, a review meeting with senior police officers was held on Sunday.
Addressing the meeting, the DIG cautioned that spreading false information online is a punishable offence. “We are gathering details of those posting fake messages, videos, and comments. The individuals responsible will be identified, and legal action will be taken based on their location,” he said.
Mr. Jatti appealed to the public not to believe or share unverified content on social media. He said that official updates would be issued by the police and urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace and order.
The DIG added that the investigation is being supervised by District Superintendent of Police K.V. Maheswar Reddy. The police are examining the incident from all angles and will initiate appropriate action against those found responsible, including temple authorities.
