Donor Support Sought for Strengthening Balyam Education Centres

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg on Tuesday appealed to donors to continue supporting Balyam Education Centres. He said the centres play a key role in providing education and nutrition to underprivileged children in the city.

The Commissioner, South MLA Vamsi Krishna Yadav, and Swachh Ambassador and Chaitanya Sravanthi founder Dr. Shireen Rehman distributed uniforms, shoes, socks, and belts sponsored by donors to students at the GVMC head office.

Mr. Garg said the nutritional meal programme, which had stopped during the COVID period, has now resumed. To support the programme, the centres need steel plates and glasses for nearly 800 students. Responding to this requirement, Dr. Rehman contributed Rs 80,000 and NRI donor Anantha Vidhyasagar, Financial Advisor at UCMS Ghana, donated ₹30,000. They handed over the cheques to the Commissioner.

Mr. Garg thanked the donors and urged more individuals and organisations to join the effort. He also announced that he would personally sponsor school bags for all 800 Balyam students.

He added that Dr. Rehman had agreed to provide free HPV vaccinations for girls aged 9 to 14 years in the South Constituency. She will cover the entire cost.

MLA Vamsi Krishna Yadav asked donors to continue supporting Balyam Centres, which operate through CSR funding. He appreciated Dr. Rehman for her contributions and for offering HPV vaccines to students within GVMC limits.

Later, the Commissioner distributed the sponsored uniforms and other essentials for the 2025–26 academic year. Students expressed their thanks to GVMC officials with placards acknowledging the nutritional meals and the recent salary revision for Balyam teachers.

GVMC Balyam Project Officer H. Shankara Rao, Project Coordinator Mohan Kumar Avupati, teachers, students and staff members attended the programme.
