DRM Waltair reviews NMDC sidings to boost freight operations

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Waltair Division, Lalit Bohra, along with senior divisional officials, conducted an inspection of NMDC’s Bacheli and Kirandul sidings today, aimed at strengthening coordination with NMDC projects and enhancing operational efficiency.

Mr. Bohra said, “Our objective is to ensure smooth freight operations while exploring ways to increase rake loading capacity. Efficient coordination with NMDC will benefit both the Railways and the company in terms of productivity and revenue generation. By streamlining operations and optimizing loading processes, we aim to reduce delays and improve overall efficiency for freight movement.”

During the visit, Bohra held detailed discussions with senior NMDC officials to identify practical measures for enhancing freight loading operations. “We are optimistic that these initiatives will significantly improve traffic handling and operational efficiency,” he added, emphasizing the importance of modern infrastructure and better coordination between the two organizations.

Following the discussions, the DRM and his team carried out a thorough inspection of key sidings, including Reception Yard 5, Line No. 4, and the Loading Plant, focusing on operational workflows, safety standards, and potential areas for process improvement to ensure faster and more reliable freight handling.

A major focus of the inspection was the KK Line, where ongoing doubling work, station development, and siding improvements were reviewed. Bohra also evaluated the wagon discharge silo system at NMDC, noting that “this facility is expected to considerably reduce wagon loading time, enabling faster turnaround and better utilization of resources.”

The inspection concluded with a visit to the ADEN Kirandul Office and an assessment of passenger amenities at the station.
