ECoR GM Inspects Rail Line Works, Reviews Simhachalam Station Upgrade
East Coast Railway General Manager Parameswar Funkwal on Saturday reviewed major rail infrastructure works in the Visakhapatnam region. He inspected the Visakhapatnam–Gopalapatnam and Vadlapudi–Gate Junction sections, where third and fourth railway lines are under construction to ease congestion on this busy passenger and freight corridor.
His visit was considered important as these lines are critical for improving capacity, reducing delays, and supporting the region’s growing transport needs.
Funkwal was accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Ankush Kumar Gupta, and senior officials from the headquarters, the construction wing, and the Waltair Division.
Engineers briefed him on progress in earthwork, bridge construction, track laying, and signalling. He examined safety measures at work sites, assessed project timelines and discussed ways to avoid delays while maintaining uninterrupted train operations.
Later, the General Manager visited Simhachalam to inspect the Amrit Bharat Station redevelopment. He reviewed work on station buildings, platforms and circulating areas, along with plans to upgrade waiting areas, accessibility features and other passenger amenities.
The visit was significant because the station redevelopment is expected to improve overall passenger experience and better serve the steady stream of commuters, pilgrims and tourists.
Railway authorities said the inspection helped set clear priorities for both projects and reinforced the focus on timely execution of infrastructure that is vital for strengthening rail connectivity in the Visakhapatnam region.
