GIMSR hosts workshop on advanced regional anaesthesia
The Department of Anaesthesiology at the GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) organised a one-day hands-on workshop on Advanced Ultrasound-Guided Anaesthesia (AUGRA) here on Wednesday.
The program focused on Advanced Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia (UGRA), which utilizes real-time ultrasound imaging for accurate needle placement during nerve blocks. Experts noted that this technique provides clear visualization of nerves, blood vessels, and the distribution of local anesthetic, leading to enhanced patient safety and better pain relief compared to traditional landmark-based methods. Additionally, newer developments such as continuous catheter techniques, artificial intelligence-assisted imaging, and long-acting local anesthetic agents were also discussed.
Prof. B. Geetanjali, Pro Vice-Chancellor, GIMSR, inaugurated the workshop. Dr. S. P. Rao, Dean, GIMSR; Dr. Javed Khan, President of the Academy of Regional Anaesthesia of India; and Dr. T. V. S. Gopal, Advisor, were among those present. The faculty included Dr. Ghansyam Biyani and Dr. Mani Kiran from AIIMS, Mangalagiri, along with senior anaesthesiologists.
Members of the organising committee said the workshop aimed to provide practical training through simulation-based and hands-on learning, helping participants strengthen technical and decision-making skills for safer patient care.
