GIMSR inaugurates advanced neurophysiology laboratory
GIMSR Medical College on Thursday inaugurated an Advanced Neurophysiology Laboratory, a facility expected to enhance neurological diagnostics and support research and training at the institution.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane in the presence of Dean Dr. S. P. Rao, Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Satya Vara Prasad, and Operations Head Dr. Karthik. Faculty members, clinicians, postgraduate students, and staff attended the event.
The laboratory is equipped with advanced technology for evaluating disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems. It will offer a range of diagnostic services, including nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potential studies such as VEP, BAER, and SSEP, repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS), and autonomic function tests.
According to Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, the availability of these advanced diagnostic services under one roof will enable timely and accurate identification of a wide range of neurological conditions, including epilepsy, stroke, Parkinsonism, multiple sclerosis, Guillain–Barré syndrome, and other neuromuscular disorders. She said early and precise diagnosis is critical for initiating appropriate treatment and improving long-term patient outcomes.
She added that the facility will significantly enhance the quality of patient care by reducing the need for referrals to multiple centres, thereby saving time and costs for patients. At the same time, it will serve as an important academic resource, strengthening hands-on training for postgraduate students and providing a robust platform for advanced clinical research and interdisciplinary collaboration at the institution.
