GITAM NCC Cadets Excel in National Camps, Win Sailing and Drill Honours
NCC cadets from GITAM Deemed to be University achieved good results in recent national competitions, representing the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Directorate. Their success showed the discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills developed through the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Challa Shiva Shankar, a third-year B.Tech (ECE) student, was selected to attend the All India Nau Sainik Camp (AINSC) 2025 at INS Shivaji, Lonavala. The month-long camp included cadets from 17 directorates across the country. The AP & Telangana team secured ninth place overall, winning first place in Drill, third place in Semaphore, ninth place in Boat Pulling, and sixth place in Service Subjects. Shiva Shankar took part in all these events.
“The training was intense and tested us in many ways, from physical fitness to teamwork,” said Shiva Shankar. “Representing my university and the directorate at a national camp was an honour. It taught me the value of persistence and coordination.” According to NCC officials, the AINSC is one of the organization’s main annual events, focusing on naval training, seamanship, drills, communication, and leadership.
GITAM students also did well in sailing. Adabala Deepak, a third-year B.Tech (CSE) student, and Vishakha Singh, a third-year BCA student, competed in the Inter-Group Sailing Competition. Vishakha won first place in the Enterprises class (EP) sailing event, while Deepak secured second place. Both were chosen to represent the AP & Telangana Directorate at the All India Yachting Regatta, held at INS Chilka, Odisha. The team finished 11th overall among directorates from across India.
“Sailing requires both strategy and resilience. Securing second place and being selected for the national regatta motivates me to keep improving,” said Deepak. Vishakha added, “It was a proud moment to represent GITAM and the directorate. Sailing at this level taught me the importance of focus and quick decision-making.”
University officials said that GITAM hosts two Army units and one Navy unit under the NCC. They added that active participation in NCC, along with academic support and leadership programs, helps in the overall development of cadets and prepares them for future responsibilities.
