GITAM Student Selected for Indian Army Officers Training
Vinil Dixit, a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student at GITAM Deemed to be University, has taken a significant step toward his dream of serving the nation. He has been selected for the October 2025 batch at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, through the Special Entry Scheme – 58, and will soon begin his journey as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army.
Vinil’s journey to the Army began with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), where he learned that discipline, resilience, and leadership go hand in hand. Early mornings of drill practice, long runs, and parade rehearsals became a routine that Vinil embraced wholeheartedly.
“Every challenge, every drill taught me responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance,” Vinil said. His commitment was recognised when he represented GITAM at the prestigious Republic Day Camp (RDC) in New Delhi, an honour reserved for a select group of cadets nationwide.
The Services Selection Board (SSB) posed another demanding challenge. Vinil impressed evaluators with his clarity of thought, courage, and leadership — qualities developed during his NCC training — and was recommended for officer training.
“The SSB was rigorous and challenging, but my NCC training had prepared me for both the physical and mental demands,” he said. “Receiving the recommendation was a moment of immense satisfaction.”
Reflecting on his journey, Vinil added, “This path has shaped who I am today. NCC instilled in me values of service, discipline, and perseverance. Joining the Army is not just a career step; it is my commitment to the nation.”
GITAM Vice-Chancellor Dr. Eroll D’Souza congratulated Vinil and highlighted the broader significance of his achievement. “Vinil’s success shows how young cadets can channel dedication and discipline into national service. His achievement will inspire many at GITAM and beyond to embrace leadership and service to the country,” Dr. D’Souza said.
Vinil’s selection marks not only a personal achievement but also a proud milestone for GITAM and the 3(A) Naval Unit, reflecting the transformative impact of NCC training. As he prepares for OTA, aspiring cadets in Visakhapatnam now have a role model demonstrating how dedication, courage, and perseverance can open doors to serving the nation at the highest level.
