GITAM (Deemed to be University) will be one of the nodal centres for the eighth Smart India Hackathon, which will be inaugurated online by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The nationwide event, organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the AICTE, will be held on December 8 across several centres.

About 25 teams from various States will gather at the GITAM campus for the hardware finale. They will work on problem statements issued by the National Disaster Response Force and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. DIG-rank officers will evaluate the solutions, said B. Rajkumar, convener of the GITAM nodal centre.

The software round is scheduled for December 8 and 9, while the hardware edition will continue until December 12. Sixty centres across India will operate round the clock to support coding, prototyping, and testing.

SIH 2025 features 271 problem statements covering space technology, cybersecurity, MedTech, renewable energy, robotics, defence innovation, smart education, and agriculture. These challenges have been released by 58 Union ministries, 15 State departments and seven PSUs and industry partners.

A total of 1,360 teams representing more than 8,160 students have qualified for the finale. Officials said the strong participation reflects growing confidence in student-led innovation. At the poster launch, Raja P. Pappu, Dean of the GITAM School of Business, said the university is proud to support young innovators working towards a more technologically advanced India.
