“Google data centre will transform Visakhapatnam, create jobs for youth,” says Collector

“Just as Hyderabad witnessed rapid growth after Microsoft’s entry, Visakhapatnam is set to undergo significant transformation with the arrival of the Google data centre, which will also reshape the city’s landscape,” said District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Collector said, “The Google data centre will be the largest in Asia, with an investment of around Rs 85,000 crore. Its establishment will create a substantial number of jobs for our youth.”

Highlighting upcoming infrastructure projects, Mr. Harendhira Prasad added, “We are constructing 15 master plan roads to meet the city’s growing needs. The tender process for seven of these roads has been completed, and work will start in three to four days. Our target is to complete all the roads by April–May 2026.” He also noted that efforts are underway to reduce travel time to Bhogapuram Airport to 50 minutes.

On the influx of companies, the Collector said, “Several companies, including Google, are setting up operations in Visakhapatnam. Sify performed the Bhoomi Puja just two days ago.” He also referred to discussions during the recent visit of the State IT Minister on the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region, identification of land for IT parks, and other initiatives.

On water resources, Mr. Harendhira Prasad said, “We are taking steps to ensure adequate water supply for drinking and other needs, including plans to source water from the Polavaram Eduma canal.” He added that the district has 526 ponds and water bodies, with plans to modernise 24 of them using NREGS and CSR funds.
