Government Approves Digital Agriculture Mission to Build ‘Agri Stack’

The Government of India has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission to create a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture, known as the Agri Stack. The initiative aims to provide farmer-focused digital solutions and ensure timely, reliable crop-related information, said Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, on Tuesday.

Mr. Chaturvedi was addressing the plenary session on “Agri Stack – A Digital Solution for Agriculture” during the second day of the 28th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2025. He said the project has ambitious targets, including generating 11 crore farmer IDs by 2026–27 and collecting plot-wise crop data across all States and Union Territories, starting with Kharif 2025. The system, he added, will bridge gaps in reliable agricultural data and help design effective digital services.

The proposed Farmer Database will bring together details such as Aadhaar linkage, land records, and dynamic updates after land mutation. Alongside, the Digital Crop Survey will record plots with geo-tagged photographs and geo-fencing to ensure accurate crop records nationwide.

The session featured Pramod Kumar Meherda, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare; Rajeev Chawla, Strategic Advisor and Chief Knowledge Officer, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare; Budithi Rajsekhar, Special Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Marketing & Cooperation Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh; and Shashank Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO of DeHaat.

Panelists underlined the importance of accountability, efficiency, and citizen-centric governance. They highlighted how digital tools and innovative processes can improve transparency, strengthen institutions, and deliver better outcomes for farmers.

Speakers also noted that the Agri Stack supports the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat, reflecting a commitment to innovation and knowledge-driven governance that can transform India’s agriculture sector.
