GVMC Chief Orders Daily Water Tests, Pumping Station Upgrades
In a bid to ensure safe and uninterrupted water supply, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed water supply engineers to improve the upkeep of all city pumping stations and conduct daily water quality tests.
On Tuesday, Mr. Garg, accompanied by GVMC Chief Engineer P.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju, inspected the 10 MGD pumping station at Sundarayya Colony, Gajuwaka. During the visit, he toured all sections of the facility, including the SCADA system, pump operations, power control room, water treatment plant, and station maps. Engineers provided a detailed briefing on water inflow, filtration output, quality checks, and the overall drinking water supply process for Gajuwaka.
The Commissioner stressed that water samples must be collected daily, tested in laboratories, and the results properly recorded in line with the Standard Operating Procedure. S.E. Yedukondalu suggested establishing an in-house laboratory for the immediate assessment of water quality. Mr. Garg asked the Chief Engineer to prepare proposals for a fully equipped laboratory and instructed that special attention be paid to water charge collections.
Following the inspection, Mr. Garg visited the 80-feet road in Akkayyapalem and urged Town Planning officials to expedite the issuance of Transferable Development Rights for properties affected by road widening.
