GVMC Commissioner stresses accountability in sanitation management
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg on Tuesday reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to strengthening sanitation systems across the city. He directed officials to maintain strict standards of cleanliness and public hygiene.
During a field inspection at Narasimha Nagar Rythu Bazaar, the Commissioner reviewed on-ground sanitation practices. He instructed public health officials, staff, and sanitation workers to report to duty on time and perform their responsibilities with diligence. He also stressed that ward sanitation secretaries must supervise operations closely and ensure accountability in their respective areas.
Mr. Garg examined the Facial Recognition System (FRS) attendance records of sanitation workers and ward secretaries. He directed that every ward maintain a sanitation map showing the deployment of workers, CLAP vehicles, and loaders. Such a system, he said, would help achieve systematic coverage, timely waste collection, and better monitoring.
Noting the heavy public footfall at Narasimha Nagar Rythu Bazaar, the Commissioner instructed Chief Medical Officer E.N.V. Naresh Kumar to ensure that garbage is lifted twice daily—once in the morning and once in the evening—to prevent waste accumulation in the busy commercial zone.
Sanitary Supervisor Janardhan, Sanitary Inspector Kranti, ward secretariat secretaries, and other municipal officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
The GVMC has been upgrading its sanitation framework through digital monitoring of attendance, structured deployment of staff and vehicles, and improved waste collection methods. The Corporation has emphasised that these measures aim to create cleaner and healthier public spaces for citizens.
