GVMC reviews preparations for Swachh Survekshan

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed officials to review all parameters of Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 and implement a focused plan to secure the top rank for the city.

The commissioner held a review meeting with additional commissioners, zonal commissioners and department heads at the VMRDA Children’s Theatre on Thursday to assess the city’s preparedness for the national sanitation survey.

Garg said the Swachh Survekshan assessment team is expected to visit Visakhapatnam soon. He asked officials to examine sanitation work in all zones and ensure that duties are carried out without lapses.

He directed officials to focus on door-to-door waste collection and waste segregation at source. Awareness programmes should also be conducted to encourage citizen feedback and public participation.

The commissioner asked officials to involve NGOs, social organisations and Resident Welfare Associations in sanitation drives across the city. Proper management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste should also be ensured.

He stressed the need to maintain pink toilets, public toilets and school toilets, besides improving upkeep of green belts and Triple R centres. Steps must also be taken to prevent open defecation and urination in public places.

Garg said the Swachh Survekshan evaluation carries 12,500 marks, and any lapse could result in loss of marks or negative marking.

Pointing out that GVMC has secured single-digit ranks in previous surveys, he urged officials to work together and secure the first rank for Visakhapatnam in Swachh Survekshan 2025–26.
