GVMC rolls out major civic projects, IFC commits Rs 498 crore
Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg on Wednesday said several key civic projects, including smart vending zones, the AI-based traffic system Project SARTHI, and streetlighting upgrades, are underway in the city, with some expected to be completed within 50 days of the New Year.
Addressing a press conference, they said the International Finance Corporation has committed up to $60 million (Rs 498 crore) for the Madhurawada Sewerage System Project. During 2025–26, GVMC has taken up 1,667 works costing Rs 657.39 crore, of which 486 works worth Rs 82.75 crore have been completed. A proposal to develop 88.35 km of roads under the PPP Hybrid Annuity Model for Rs 306.95 crore is awaiting administrative sanction.
Mr Garg said three smart vending markets are being developed at Yendada, Central Park, and Duvvada, while open spaces are being protected under Operation Life to Urban Green Spaces. Under the 15th Finance Commission, Rs 129.25 crore has been allocated for 32 works, and ₹222 crore is being spent on major water supply, sewage recycling, and water body rejuvenation projects.
GVMC currently maintains 1.18 lakh LED street lights and has initiated works to install 10,545 more for Rs 6.71 crore. New proposals include a Rs 595 crore project to augment water supply by 85 MLD in Madhurawada and Mudasarlova, a 15 MW solar power plant, and a sports complex at Bheemili.
During 2025–26, 740 vacant spaces are being developed into green parks. Between September 2024 and December 4, 2025, 91.84 lakh people availed meals at Anna Canteens. For 2025–26, GVMC has set a property tax target of Rs 600 crore, with Rs 357.85 crore collected so far.
