GVMC seeks CSR support for Balyam Centres

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has appealed to donors and corporate organisations to extend support to its Balyam Centres under their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The appeal was made by GVMC Additional Commissioner S.S. Varma on Saturday during a nutrition distribution programme organised at 30 Balyam Centres across the city. The programme was supported with financial assistance of Rs 50,000 from NRI donor Ananth Vidya Sagar, Chief Executive Officer of V-CAT Institute, Ghana. As part of the initiative, groundnut and sesame chikkis were distributed to children.

Mr. Varma, along with Balyam Project Officer H. Shankara Rao and Project Coordinator Avupati Mohan Kumar, distributed the snacks to children at the Venkojipalem Balyam Centre. He said the initiative was aimed at improving the overall health and nutrition levels of children studying at Balyam Centres.

“Groundnut chikkis are energy-rich and commonly consumed during the winter season. They contain essential vitamins, minerals, proteins and antioxidants that help support physical growth and cognitive development in children,” Mr. Varma said.

He thanked the donor for coming forward to support the programme and urged more individuals and organisations to contribute to initiatives focused on child welfare and development.

Balyam Project Officer H. Shankara Rao said the GVMC Balyam Project focuses on education, health, nutrition and child care, and sustained donor support has helped in successfully implementing several programmes for the benefit of children across the city.

The programme was attended by Balyam Project Coordinator Avupati Mohan Kumar, supervisors of various Balyam Centres and other staff.
