GVMC spends Rs 19 crore on city beautification ahead of IFR

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has taken up beautification works worth Rs 19 crore ahead of the International Fleet Review (IFR), which Visakhapatnam will host next week.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said more than 90% of the works are permanent. These works cover road upgrades, footpath development, and improvements to central medians. In addition, the civic body has stepped up greenery, lighting, and drainage works. It has also diverted and covered key drains. While GVMC has launched some projects recently, it has continued several others that began for the Investors Summit in November 2025.

Meanwhile, Mr. Garg said the remaining focus will be on sanitation and the installation of additional LED lights needed for the event. “All works are in the final stages. Overall, we are executing 119 projects related to roads, sanitation, greenery, painting, and allied components,” he said.

During the event, sanitation workers will ensure uninterrupted waste clearance along Beach Road and nearby beach stretches. At the same time, officials will keep streetlights and solar-powered lighting systems fully operational under continuous monitoring.

At present, engineering and horticulture teams are carrying out footpath repairs, completing painting works, and refreshing road markings. They are also maintaining central medians. According to Mr. Garg, officers from the engineering, town planning, and public health departments are coordinating closely to complete all works on schedule.
