GVMC steps up drive to clear tax dues

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg directed the corporation’s revenue wing to step up the collection of property tax, vacant land tax, arrears and water charges. He reviewed the status of collections at the head office on Wednesday with senior officials and zonal commissioners.

Mr. Garg observed that a few zones were still lagging behind their targets and told the teams to clear both current and pending dues. He advised newly appointed officers to maintain integrity in their work and noted that corruption would not be tolerated. Proper assessment, he said, depended on accurate records of government and private properties.

Revenue Inspectors were asked to coordinate with Ward Secretariat Administrative Secretaries and carry out household visits to streamline collections. Additional payment counters are being arranged to help residents. The Commissioner added that dues should be recovered even when related cases are before the court.

He also instructed officials to work with Water Supply Assistant Engineers and Amenity Secretaries across all 98 wards. GVMC-owned shops and function halls have been told to collect rents three months in advance, and UGD connection charges are to be collected without delay.

Mr. Garg said zonal commissioners now have financial powers up to Rs. 2 lakh and asked them to use these powers wherever required. He asked them to give priority to revenue and sanitation and to review progress with Liaison Officer Manisha Tripathi.

Additional Commissioner Ramanamurthy said efficient officers had been posted to key revenue positions. DC (Revenue) Srinivasarao urged officials to work together to strengthen the corporation’s financial position.

Zonal commissioners later felicitated the Commissioner for the successful conduct of the CII Partnership Summit. Ward Secretariat Administrative Secretaries joined the review through teleconference.
