Following directives from the Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation on Sunday organised ‘Happy Sunday’ programmes across all its zones, drawing enthusiastic participation from citizens and community groups.
A variety of activities including sports competitions, yoga sessions, dance and music performances, mimicry, summer awareness campaigns, and cultural programmes were conducted at parks, beach stretches, community halls, function halls, and other public spaces across the city. Several locations witnessed vibrant morning gatherings, with families, youth, and children actively taking part, while senior citizens and walkers’ groups also joined in large numbers.
Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), students, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, and public representatives participated actively, reflecting strong community involvement. Awareness drives focusing on summer precautions, hygiene, and public health were also organised as part of the initiative, adding a social message to the recreational activities.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the programme is aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, fostering social harmony, and encouraging greater community participation. He noted that such initiatives also help in creating awareness on seasonal issues while motivating citizens to make better use of public spaces across the city.
