HSL Partners with SDI to Train Youth in Industrial Welding
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Visakhapatnam. The partnership will train 30 unemployed youth from weaker sections of society in Andhra Pradesh in Industrial Welding. The initiative is part of HSL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.
The program aims to give participants practical skills and improve their employability in the manufacturing and industrial sectors. The first batch of trainees was inaugurated by Cmde Rakesh Prasad, Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel). He urged the trainees to stay focused and disciplined. “Skill, combined with discipline, opens the door to sustainable employment and a brighter future,” he said.
Among the trainees is 22-year-old Ramesh Kumar from Srikakulam. He completed his schooling but struggled to find work due to financial constraints. “I am excited to learn welding. This skill can help me support my family and build a stable career,” he said. Another trainee, 21-year-old Meena Rani from Visakhapatnam, hopes the program will help her break barriers in a field traditionally dominated by men.
The training will include hands-on sessions, modern welding techniques, and guidance from experienced professionals. On completing the program, the trainees are expected to secure jobs in the industrial sector. This will contribute to their personal growth and strengthen the skilled workforce in the state.
HSL said the initiative reflects its commitment to inclusive growth and social responsibility. It creates opportunities for livelihood and skill development among underprivileged communities. The program also supports the broader vision of a self-reliant and skilled India.
HSL’s collaboration with SDI is a model for public sector organizations. It shows how industrial enterprises can combine economic growth with community development and make a lasting social impact.
