IBM sets up office in Visakhapatnam, eyes expansion with dedicated campus

IBM has established a new office in Visakhapatnam, further strengthening the city’s growing profile as an emerging IT destination. The facility has been set up in a leased space at Lansum Square in Isukathota Junction and marks another addition to the city’s expanding technology ecosystem.

Visakhapatnam, often referred to as the “City of Destiny,” has been witnessing steady growth in IT investments over the past few years. Global technology majors such as Google, Infosys, and Cognizant have already set up operations in the city, contributing to its transformation into a key IT hub on the East Coast.

The new IBM centre is being operated in collaboration with co-working space provider Sprout and is expected to accommodate around 502 employees in its initial phase. Industry observers note that the move is likely to generate employment opportunities and further boost investor confidence in the region.

“Visakhapatnam is steadily evolving into a major IT hub, attracting leading global companies. IBM’s decision to set up operations here reflects the city’s growing potential, strong infrastructure, and skilled talent pool,” said Andhra Pradesh IT and Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh.

According to company representatives, IBM has also approached the State government with a proposal to establish a dedicated campus spread over 30 acres as part of its long-term expansion strategy. “We are looking at scaling up our presence in Visakhapatnam in a phased manner, in line with business requirements and future growth plans,” a company representative said.

The latest development is seen as a positive signal for Visakhapatnam’s IT ambitions, with more global firms expected to explore opportunities in the city in the coming years.
