India Advocates Digital Inclusion and Sustainable Development at UN, Says MP M. Sribharat
India’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion, renewable energy, and cultural sustainability was in the spotlight at the United Nations, with MP M. Sribharat representing the country. Speaking at the UN forum, Sribharat emphasized India’s role in fostering inclusive growth and driving progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During his address, Sribharat outlined India’s alignment with the UN’s agenda, particularly on information and communications technologies (ICTs), science, culture, and development cooperation. “ICTs are crucial for bridging divides and accelerating progress toward the SDGs. India’s digital public infrastructure is designed to provide inclusive access to services such as finance, education, healthcare, and agriculture,” Sribharat stated.
He also highlighted India’s advancements in digital innovation, noting that interoperable systems play a key role in improving public access. “We’ve built digital platforms to ensure no one is left behind, creating a connected society where essential services are available to all,” he added.
Referencing the UN Secretary-General’s 2025 report, Sribharat stressed the urgency of addressing digital divides, particularly among women, youth, and marginalized communities. “Digital literacy and capacity-building are vital to empowering the most vulnerable. These principles are central to India’s efforts in science, technology, and innovation,” he explained.
Alongside digital progress, Sribharat highlighted India’s investments in renewable energy, affordable healthcare, and digital agriculture. “Our commitment to renewable energy and sustainable agriculture shows how technology can reduce poverty and address climate change,” he said.
International cooperation was another key point. Sribharat emphasized India’s leadership in promoting innovation globally, especially through initiatives like the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and ITEC. “International cooperation is essential in today’s interconnected world. India’s initiatives help ensure developing countries benefit equitably from technological advancements,” he affirmed.
Sribharat also discussed the role of culture in global sustainability efforts. “UNESCO’s 2025 report highlights the importance of culture in resilience, climate action, and inclusive economies. India’s rich cultural heritage and creative industries play a critical role in integrating culture into global development,” he added.
On development cooperation with middle-income countries, Sribharat stressed the need for tailored support to address their unique challenges. “Middle-income countries are key drivers of global growth. India is committed to providing the support they need to thrive,” he said.
In conclusion, Sribharat reaffirmed India’s commitment to the interconnected agendas of sustainable development, digital inclusion, and cultural preservation. “India will continue to work in partnership with all Member States to advance these critical issues,” he said.
