India Post Brings Back Letters with a Cafè Twist
Imagine grabbing a coffee, browsing books, and enjoying free Wi-Fi at your post office. That is exactly what India Post is rolling out at Andhra University’s south campus, where a new-style post office is almost ready to open. Designed to appeal to younger users, it follows similar successful makeovers at IIT Delhi and IIT Gandhinagar. The revamped space offers more than mail counters. It includes a café, digital connectivity, and a mini library, turning the post office into a lively hangout spot for students and visitors.
Once upon a time, handwritten letters and postcards carried deep emotion and created lasting bonds. In today’s digital rush, that habit has faded, especially among Gen Z, who mainly rely on instant messaging. India Post wants to bring back that charm with a modern twist.
To do that, post offices on campus locations are being redesigned as youth-friendly hubs. Visakhapatnam Postmaster General VS Jayasankar shared that similar outlets are coming up in Guntur, Kurnool and Visakhapatnam, with the Vizag branch scheduled to open on December 9.
The project reflects Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s vision of preserving India Post’s trusted legacy while giving it a contemporary identity. By mid-December, 46 post offices across the country will be upgraded, blending tradition with innovation to spark new interest in postal communication.
