India Post invites students for UPU letter-writing contest
India Post has invited school students to participate in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition 2026, with this year’s theme highlighting the importance of real human relationships in a technology-driven world.
The theme for this year is: “Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world.”
In a statement, the Ministry of Communications said the contest is open to students aged between nine and 15 years. “Students can submit handwritten letters in English or any Eighth Schedule language,” the Ministry said, adding that entries must be handwritten.
Schools have been instructed to shortlist the best entries and submit them to the respective Postal Circles. “Schools will forward selected entries to Postal Circles by March 20,” the statement said.
Winners will be recognised at both Circle and national levels, and the best entry will represent India internationally. “The winners will be awarded at the circle and National levels, with the best entry representing India internationally,” the Ministry said.
Officials said the competition holds significance as it encourages children to express their thoughts through letter writing, promotes creativity and language skills, and reinforces the value of personal communication at a time when most interactions are digital. It also provides students a rare opportunity to represent India on a global platform through their writing.
