Indian Navy Concludes Biannual Joint Exercise Jal Prahar

The Indian Navy successfully completed its biannual joint exercise, Jal Prahar, in close cooperation with the Indian Army. The exercise aimed to strengthen inter-service coordination and improve operational readiness. It focused on planning and executing amphibious operations along India’s eastern seaboard.

The drill took place in two phases. The Harbour Phase ran from September 16 to 20 at Visakhapatnam. It focused on the induction and integration of army personnel onboard INS Gharial. Soldiers received onboard training, safety briefings, and orientation on life at sea. They also participated in sports and interactive sessions to build camaraderie and enhance teamwork.

The Sea Phase took place from September 21 to 23 off the Kakinada coast. It involved practical amphibious operations. Key actions included hard beaching, deployment of Landing Craft Assault (LCA) vessels, and the use of BMP amphibious vehicles. The exercise also tested Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Joint Training Protocols.

Navy officials said the exercise highlighted the armed forces’ focus on readiness and adaptability. It also showed the importance of joint planning, real-time coordination, and integration of land and naval forces. These efforts are vital to safeguard India’s maritime interests along the eastern seaboard.

Jal Prahar provides both services a platform to refine tactics, share expertise, and strengthen operational cohesion. The exercise reflects India’s commitment to robust defensive preparedness in the maritime domain.
