IV Town Police Crack ₹28 Lakh Gold Theft in Hours

The IV Town Police (crime wing) solved a high-value gold theft case within hours of receiving a complaint on Thursday. As a result, the police arrested two habitual property offenders and recovered 280 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹28 lakh.

The arrested women were identified as Mekala Ganga (30) of Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district and R. Yellaramma (44) of K. Kotapadu in Anakapalli district.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Latha Madhuri, the theft occurred on February 3. On that day, V. Jyothi of B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district was travelling with her mother to Srikakulam. They arrived at Visakhapatnam railway station by the Ratnachal Express around 12.30 p.m. Later, they boarded a shared auto-rickshaw to the RTC Complex.

However, the next day, the family noticed that the gold ornaments kept in their bag were missing. Subsequently, they suspected two women who had travelled with them in the shared auto. The suspects had got down near Sangam Sarath Theatre. Therefore, the complainant’s husband alerted the police through Dial 112 at 10 a.m. on February 5.

Immediately after receiving the call, the IV Town Police registered a case. Meanwhile, following the instructions of Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi, special teams launched a search operation. At the same time, the police intensified vehicle checks across the city. As a result, by 3 p.m. on Thursday, the teams arrested the two accused and recovered the stolen gold ornaments.
