JC urges public to stay alert against cybercrime
Visakhapatnam Joint Collector Gobbilla Vidyadhari has called upon the public and government officials to remain vigilant against the growing threat of cybercrime. She was addressing a basic awareness programme organised at the Collectorate meeting hall on Monday, ahead of Internet Safety Day to be observed on February 10.
Highlighting the importance of digital security, she cautioned users to exercise responsibility while using artificial intelligence and advised against indiscriminate sharing of personal information, photographs, or videos on social media platforms. She also urged people to remain alert to fake links and fraudulent websites while shopping online or making digital payments.
Referring to the increasing instances of phishing, OTP fraud, banking login fraud, deepfake AI voice scams, and digital arrest scams, she warned people against clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal data with unknown sources. She noted that malicious software such as malware and spyware could result in significant financial losses.
Ms. Vidyadhari said those who fall victim to cyber fraud should immediately contact the 1930 helpline or lodge a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in. Emphasising the need for safe and responsible internet use in the digital age, she suggested that Internet Safety Day be observed across all government offices on Tuesday. NIC officer Pasha and other officials were present.
