J&J’s ‘Institute on Wheels’ enhances clinical training at GIMSR

GIMSR Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. B. Geetanjali and Dean Dr. S. P. Rao said Johnson & Johnson Medical India’s “Institute on Wheels,” which visited the campus on Thursday, will play a key role in improving the surgical skills of students and clinical staff. They noted that bringing such a specialised training platform directly to a medical institution creates opportunities for structured, hands-on learning that traditional classroom sessions alone cannot provide.

The mobile unit is fitted with high-end surgical simulators, procedure-based modules, and interactive learning tools. It allows learners to practise various techniques in a controlled environment, offering exposure to real-time decision-making and precision-based procedures. Faculty members said this form of experiential learning helps bridge gaps that young doctors and paramedical trainees often face during their early clinical years.

Dr. Geetanjali and Dr. Rao observed that the medical field is evolving quickly, with new technologies and treatment protocols becoming part of everyday practice. They stressed that platforms like the Institute on Wheels help institutions keep pace by giving future healthcare professionals access to updated skills and methods without the limitations of hospital schedules or infrastructure.

Students who attended the sessions described the training as eye-opening. They said the simulations helped them break down complex surgical steps and understand the importance of technique, timing and teamwork inside the operating room. Many felt that the experience added clarity and confidence as they prepare for clinical postings and examinations.

The visit forms part of Johnson & Johnson’s ongoing initiative to strengthen India’s healthcare skill ecosystem by taking advanced surgical education to medical colleges across the country. By bringing technology-enabled training to the doorstep of learners, the programme aims to support the development of a more capable and future-ready healthcare workforce.
