Justice Lisa Gill sworn in as judge of AP High Court

Justice Lisa Gill on Friday assumed charge as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur administered the oath of office at a formal ceremony held in the First Court Hall of the High Court premises in Amaravati.

Justice Gill has been transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where she had been serving as a judge. Her appointment is considered significant as Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur is scheduled to retire in April this year. Following his retirement, Justice Gill is expected to become the first woman Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Hailing from Chandigarh, Justice Gill completed her LL.B. and LL.M. degrees from Panjab University. She began her legal career in 1990, practising at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where she handled a wide range of civil, constitutional, and service matters during her years at the Bar.

After more than two decades of legal practice, she was elevated as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 31, 2014. During her tenure on the Bench, Justice Gill dealt with several important cases and earned recognition for her judicial work and contributions to the legal system.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, senior law officers, and members of the Bar. Among those present were Additional Solicitor General Challa Dhanunjay, Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas, Advocates’ Association vice-president K.V. Raghu Kumar, Bar Council chairman Dwarakanath Reddy, and Public Prosecutor Lakshmi Narayana. A large number of senior advocates, lawyers, and court officials also attended the programme.
