Lambasingi’s Vanavihari Eco-Tourism Project Set for Major Upgrade

Lambasingi, often called “Andhra Kashmir,” is set for a fresh boost in eco-tourism. The mist-covered hills, known for winter temperatures near zero, are seeing a transformation at the Vanavihari eco-tourism site in Krishnapuram, six kilometres from the town.

The Forest Department has begun the second phase of development, backed by Rs 70 lakh from the state government. The upgrade will include Kerala-style semi-permanent cottages, a children’s park, adventure sports facilities, a tree-top cafeteria, and a bazaar featuring tribal products. The project is expected to be ready by November, just before the peak tourist season.

Vanavihari, launched last year with an initial Rs 25 lakh grant, currently offers 15 single tents and 10 double tents with running water, toilets, and internal roads. Visitors already enjoy trekking trails, hammocks, and archery activities. Its location along the Chintapalli–Narsipatnam road makes it a convenient stop for travellers heading to Kothapalli waterfalls, Paderu, and Araku.

The new cottages will have double bedrooms, a living area, dressing room, and washroom, blending comfort with nature. The children’s park, upgraded trekking trails, and adventure sports aim to attract younger visitors, while the tree-top cafeteria will provide panoramic views of the hills.

A bazaar will support local tribal communities by showcasing forest produce, spices, and handicrafts. Traditional forest meals, flowering plants, cultural programmes, and open-air banquets are also planned to enhance the overall visitor experience.

With year-round staffing, parking, and round-the-clock security, the upgraded Vanavihari is being designed as a sustainable destination that balances tourism with community livelihoods. Lambasingi is preparing to offer more than its winter chill, combining nature, comfort, adventure, and culture in one destination.
