LG India Launches CSR Foundation in Visakhapatnam
LG India officially launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Foundation in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, outlining a long-term plan to support community development across the region. The initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to social welfare and sustainable growth in Andhra Pradesh.
The Foundation was conceptualised after a meeting last year between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and LG representatives. During the discussion, the Chief Minister encouraged LG to expand relief measures for families affected by the 2020 gas leak incident and to contribute more broadly to the city’s development initiatives.
As part of its first phase, LG India inaugurated a reverse osmosis (RO) water plant at RR Venkatapuram in Vizag West. The plant will provide clean and safe drinking water to local residents. Company officials also outlined plans to undertake projects in healthcare, skill development, and education, signalling a multi-pronged approach to community support.
Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat highlighted the importance of CSR initiatives in creating tangible benefits for residents. He called for programs focused on employment-oriented training, strengthening public health infrastructure, creating a Higher Education Scholarship Fund, and ensuring LG’s land resources in the city are effectively used for social initiatives.
Company representatives reaffirmed LG’s long-term engagement in Andhra Pradesh, citing the recent groundbreaking of its third manufacturing facility at Sri City, in addition to its existing units in Noida and Pune. These expansions reflect the company’s commitment to both economic growth and social responsibility in the region.
The launch event was attended by Lim Sang Woo, Deputy Chief of Mission; Chang Nyun Kim, Consul General (Chennai); Ko Yun-Jun, CSSO of LG Petrochem; Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General; and Girija Shankar, Retired IAS and Chairman of LG India CSR, among other dignitaries.
