Lokesh Hails Amaravati as State Capital
IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh expressed joy after the Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. He called it a historic moment for the state and a key step toward fulfilling residents’ aspirations.
Mr. Lokesh recalled that the AP Legislative Assembly had earlier passed a unanimous resolution naming Amaravati as the state capital. He said the Bill’s approval brings happiness to the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh.
He thanked the Central government and supporting parties for giving Amaravati legal recognition as the sole state capital. “The Bill’s passage is a victory for the people and a reaffirmation of our commitment to a strong, inclusive state,” he added.
Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the Bill’s smooth passage. In a press release, he credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and farmers for their persistent efforts against the YSR Congress Party’s attempts to relocate the capital.
With the Bill enacted, Amaravati officially became the state capital from June 2, 2024. Mr. Narayana said the government will continue developing all regions, keeping Amaravati at the center of administrative and infrastructural plans.
The Bill’s approval marks a landmark moment in the state’s history. Amaravati now stands as both a political hub and a symbol of Andhra Pradesh’s shared vision.
