Lpg deliveries delayed, consumers face long waits
Long queues outside LPG agencies have become common across the city as consumers face delays in cylinder deliveries. Many households say they do not receive refills on time, even after booking in advance.
Several consumers reported waiting for more than a week, sometimes up to 10 days. Gas agencies have not shared clear updates on delivery timelines. Due to this, many people visit agencies directly with empty cylinders. They travel on two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws to avoid running out of gas.
“We booked an LPG cylinder nearly 10 days ago, but it has not been delivered yet. We still have some gas left, but we worry about a complete shortage,” said Vikash, a resident of Lalitanagar, while waiting in a queue. Elderly people and women also stood in lines. Many of them received help from family members to carry cylinders.
Consumers also raised concerns about poor communication. Gas agencies confirm bookings but do not share follow-up updates in many cases. This lack of information creates confusion and concern.
Another consumer, Laxman, said the ground situation differs from official claims. “Authorities say the situation is under control, but deliveries are delayed. Cylinders do not reach households on time. Officials should examine the cause of the delay,” he said.
Gas agency representatives said many consumers collect cylinders directly due to fear of a shortage. They added that they deliver cylinders within five to seven days of booking.
The situation has affected small businesses as well. Tiffin centres, roadside eateries, and snack shops now use firewood for cooking. Several biryani outlets and catering services have also shifted partly or fully to alternative fuel sources.
Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari spoke to the media at the Collectorate on Tuesday (March 17). She said LPG stock is sufficient. She said rumours on social media led to panic booking and higher demand. She advised consumers to avoid panic and said it puts pressure on the supply system.
