Man Robs His Own House to Repay Debts, Arrested Along with Friends
In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man and three friends have been arrested for allegedly staging a robbery at his own house in Indira Nagar Colony, Kancharapalem. The crime took place on October 5 and was uncovered after a police investigation revealed a carefully planned scheme.
The arrested individuals are D. Krishnakanth (24), P. Pramod Kumar (30), S. Abhishek (21), and A. Satya Surya Kumar (22).
Speaking to the media on Friday, Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi said Krishnakanth orchestrated the plan while his father, contractor Ananda Reddy, was away in Hyderabad. “In a brazen act, the group tied up Krishnakanth’s grandmother and stole 12 tolas of gold, Rs 50,000 in cash, a car, and other valuables,” he said.
The investigation showed that Krishnakanth had suffered heavy losses in online trading. Desperate to pay off his debts, he planned the robbery with his friends over the course of a week. They coordinated through group calls and purchased masks, gloves, and plastic wraps to hide their identities. During the robbery, they communicated only in Hindi to avoid detection.
On the day of the incident, the men entered the house through the back door, restrained the elderly woman, and ransacked a locker. Krishnakanth tied himself up and pretended to be injured to divert suspicion.
After fleeing in Reddy’s car, the group abandoned it in a remote area. They then took an autorickshaw to the RTC Complex and traveled on to Vijayawada before reaching Hyderabad.
A quick complaint from the victim helped police track the suspects using call records and technical evidence. All four have been arrested, and the stolen items recovered.
This case highlights how financial desperation can drive individuals to extreme measures, even putting family members at risk.
