Medical camps in Vizag under ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan’ from Sept 17

Free medical camps will be held across Visakhapatnam district from September 17 to October 2 as part of the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan”. The programme will be virtually launched on September 17 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. On the same day, the NCD 4.0 Household Survey and screening will also begin across the State.

The initiative will focus on screening for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and common cancers. Individuals above 18 years of age will be checked for lifestyle-related ailments and cancers.

District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) P. Jagadiswara Rao said free medical camps for women will be organised at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Urban Health Centres and government hospitals in the district. The programme aims to raise awareness of women’s health, provide medical services based on need, and encourage nutritional practices.

The camps will offer screening for heart disease, diabetes, oral cancer, cervical cancer, and anaemia among women and girls. Children will be tested for sickle cell anaemia. Awareness sessions on personal hygiene will also be conducted. Dr. Jagadiswara Rao urged women and girls to make use of the free services.

VIMS Director Dr. K. Rambabu said a Help Desk has been opened at the hospital to ensure smooth conduct of the campaign. Along with screening and treatment, diagnostic tests including X-rays and ultrasound scans will be provided free of cost during the fortnight-long programme.
