Microsoft to Open India’s Largest Quantum Hub in Amaravati
Microsoft will invest Rs 1,772 crore (around $212 million) to establish India’s largest quantum computing centre in Amaravati. The 4,000 sq. ft. facility will house a 1,200-qubit system and form a central part of Andhra Pradesh’s “Quantum Valley” project, aimed at advancing research and innovation in emerging technologies.
A formal MoU between Microsoft and the Andhra Pradesh government is expected to be signed during the 30th CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam on November 14-15, industry sources said. IBM and Fujitsu are also participating in the project.
In addition to the quantum computing centre, Microsoft will work with the state to train 2 lakh youth in artificial intelligence and advanced technology skills. The programmes will reach 500 teachers, 10,000 engineering students from rural colleges, and 80,000 individuals through rural ITIs. The company has acquired 25 acres near Nandigama for its operations.
O. Naresh Kumar, Vice President of the IT Park Association Rushikonda, said, “Microsoft’s entry into Quantum Valley is a major boost for the region and will attract more companies to Andhra Pradesh. Projects like these put Amaravati on the global tech map.”
Earlier, IBM, TCS, and L&T announced super quantum computing projects in Quantum Valley, making Microsoft’s involvement a key addition to the growing technology ecosystem.
