MILAN Village inaugurated at ENC Sailors’ Institute

Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, inaugurated the MILAN Village at the ENC Sailors’ Institute here on Sunday. Naval personnel and their families attended the ceremony.

The Indian Navy created the MILAN Village as an experience zone. It brings together delegates and naval personnel from more than 70 countries. Moreover, it aims to foster camaraderie and friendship. The venue also encourages social and cultural exchanges beyond formal engagements.

Importantly, cultural exchange forms the core theme of the village. Visitors can enjoy live performances by vocal artists and folk dancers. In addition, cultural ensembles present India’s artistic diversity. These programmes offer guests an immersive glimpse into India’s heritage and traditions.

The village features stalls showcasing naval souvenirs, handicrafts and handloom products. Together, these exhibits highlight indigenous craftsmanship from across the country. Besides this, visitors can sample a wide variety of Indian cuisine. The menu presents distinct regional flavours.

Speaking at the event, Vice Admiral Bhalla said the MILAN Village reflects the spirit of camaraderie and cultural connection. He noted that such initiatives complement professional naval cooperation. Furthermore, he observed that Visakhapatnam will host the International Fleet Review 2026, Exercise MILAN 2026 and the IONS Conclave of Chiefs in close succession. According to him, this convergence marks a significant moment in India’s maritime outreach.

Meanwhile, the inauguration signals the start of a series of naval engagements in the city. Exercise MILAN 2026 will take place from February 15 to 25. It will serve as a key pillar of the broader maritime convergence. The exercise will run alongside the International Fleet Review 2026 and the IONS Conclave of Chiefs.

Notably, MILAN 2026 ranks among the largest multilateral naval exercises in the Indo-Pacific. Navies from across the globe will participate. The harbour and sea phases will include anti-submarine warfare, air defence and search and rescue drills. They will also cover cooperative security operations.

Officials said the exercise aligns with India’s MAHASAGAR vision. Therefore, it reinforces India’s role as a preferred security partner and a responsible maritime stakeholder.
