Naidu to lay foundation for Google data centre in Vizag on April 28
TDP Andhra Pradesh unit president Palla Srinivasa Rao on Thursday announced that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Google data centre project in Visakhapatnam on April 28.
Senior representatives from Google and officials from the Central government are expected to attend the event, marking a significant milestone in the State’s technology push.
Describing it as a mega initiative, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the project entails an estimated investment of $15 billion. The proposed facility will come up on 601 acres and is expected to be fully operational by July 2028.
He stated that the project is likely to attract substantial investments into Andhra Pradesh and generate large-scale employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
In a release, Mr. Srinivasa Rao observed that Visakhapatnam is steadily positioning itself as a global hub for artificial intelligence. He said the city’s emergence as the country’s first 1-gigawatt AI hub would mark a transformative phase in the development of the North Andhra region.
The project is expected to accelerate the growth of North Andhra into a vibrant technology corridor, with expansion in infrastructure, industrial activity, and job creation. It would also enable youth to acquire advanced skills and gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, opening doors to global career opportunities, he added.
