National Railway Weightlifting Meet Begins in Visakhapatnam

Showcasing strength, discipline, and sporting spirit, the 72nd Men’s and 11th Women’s All India Railway Weightlifting Championship 2025-26 opened in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. The national event, hosted by the East Coast Railway Sports Association, is being held at the Waltair Railway Indoor Stadium and will continue till December 6.

Nearly 82 men and 80 women weightlifters from 15 zonal railways and production units across the country are competing in the four-day championship.

Events are being contested across multiple categories. Men will compete in +110 kg, 110 kg, 94 kg, 88 kg, 79 kg, 71 kg, 65 kg, and 60 kg divisions, while women will fight for titles in +86 kg, 77–86 kg, 69 kg, 58–63 kg, and 48–53 kg groups, senior divisional commercial manager K. Pavan Kumar said.

Divisional railway manager and ECoRSA president Lalit Bohra inaugurated the meet. ECoRWWO president Jyotsna Bohra, ADRM (Infra) E. Santharam, ADRM (Operations) K. Rama Rao, senior DFM and sports officer M. Haranath, Dronacharya awardee Sunil Kumar, Indian weightlifting team tournament director N. Usha, weightlifting secretary Suresh, in-charge G. Venkata Rama and other officials were present.
