Navy Enhances ‘Aatmanirbharta’ with New Weapon Testing Facility ‘Trinetra’

Marking a major stride toward self-reliance in defence technology, the Indian Navy today commissioned a state-of-the-art Static Firing Facility named ‘Trinetra’ at Naval Station Bheemunipatnam, near Visakhapatnam. The facility, inaugurated by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, is set to significantly bolster the Navy’s capabilities for testing and certifying naval weapon systems.

‘Trinetra’ has been completely indigenously designed and developed, aligning with the national mission of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance). Its primary role will be the static testing of Naval Weapon Systems, including missiles and rockets.

The commissioning of this facility is a pivotal step in reducing the Indian Navy’s reliance on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for the life extension and maintenance of its armament. By facilitating in-house testing, ‘Trinetra’ will ensure the sustained operational capability of the Navy’s arsenal.

The facility is equipped to enable a scientific assessment of the combatworthiness of naval weapon systems. It will capture and record key performance parameters during the firing trials, which, according to a Navy spokesperson, will substantially enhance the reliability and precision of these systems in achieving their intended operational outcomes.

The formal commissioning of ‘Trinetra’ reinforces the Indian Navy’s commitment to building robust, in-house technical infrastructure, ensuring enhanced combat readiness and mission capability for its fleet.
