NCC Raising Day Marks a New Chapter for Andhra University
The 77th NCC Raising Day celebrations, titled Visakha Tarang, were held on Sunday at the Andhra University Convention Center. The event brought together cadets, faculty, and officials for cultural performances, awards, and reflections on the corps’ role in developing young leaders.
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. P. Raja Sekhar, the Chief Guest, said it was a proud moment for the institution to host the celebration during its centenary year. He noted that the occasion supports the university’s ongoing work to upgrade its infrastructure, expand its reach, and strengthen academic quality as it enters its next century.
He announced the AU Rural Connectivity Programme at Paderu, created to improve access to higher education for students in remote tribal areas. The initiative will enhance transport options, offer guidance programs, and provide digital learning opportunities to help more students from the tribal belt connect with the university.
He also highlighted that AU operates its own NCC center and collaborates with units in affiliated colleges to run leadership camps, social service activities, and training sessions. Students who participate in the NCC, he said, gain discipline, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose that supports national unity.
Vice Admiral Sushil Menon, Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command and Guest of Honour, spoke about the lasting importance of NCC Day and the need for young people to stay curious, continue learning, and contribute to the country’s progress. He encouraged cadets to take pride in the values the NCC upholds and carry them into their future roles.
