New Initiative Empowers Farmers with Technology and Capacity-Building

A new initiative aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector’s technological capacity was launched today, with a special focus on empowering local extension workers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). The project will ensure the widespread adoption and long-term success of modern farming practices through a dedicated mobile application.

The initiative, which introduces a specialized app, also provides critical support to the local agricultural ecosystem by building the skills of extension workers and FPOs. This dual approach is designed to ensure that farmers receive not only the tools but also the knowledge necessary to adopt new technologies effectively.

District Horticulture Officer A. Ramesh Kumar and Digital Green Trust Programme Manager G. Sreekanth attended the launch event, highlighting the importance of such capacity-building efforts in transforming the agricultural landscape.

“This project will help bridge the gap between technology and on-ground practices, ensuring that farmers can fully leverage digital tools to increase productivity,” said A. Ramesh Kumar.

Sreekanth of Digital Green Trust emphasized the role of FPOs in creating a network of support that is crucial for sustaining agricultural advancements. “The involvement of FPOs will ensure that farmers are not only trained but also have a support system to guide them through the transition,” he stated.

The programme aims to provide a comprehensive, scalable solution to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability, with a focus on long-term impact.
