Nitish Kumar Reddy makes history as Andhra’s first all-format India cricketer

Rising star K. Nitish Kumar Reddy from Visakhapatnam has achieved a remarkable milestone in Indian cricket. The 22-year-old all-rounder made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia at Perth on Sunday, marking yet another chapter in his rapidly growing international career.

Nitish received his ODI cap from former India captain Rohit Sharma, a proud moment for the young cricketer and his home state. With this debut, he becomes only the third player from Andhra Pradesh to represent India in ODIs, after Ambati Rayudu and Venugopal Rao. More significantly, Nitish has now become the first cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to don the India jersey in all three formats — Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

In his maiden ODI outing, Nitish made an impact with a quick-fire 19 off 11 balls, including two towering sixes in the final over that helped India post a competitive total in a rain-affected game.

Nitish’s rise through the ranks has been steady. He made his T20 International debut against Bangladesh in October 2024 at Gwalior and earned his Test cap the following month during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth.

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) led the celebrations, congratulating Nitish on social media for his historic feat. Fans from Visakhapatnam and across Andhra Pradesh joined in, hailing the young all-rounder as a source of pride and inspiration for the state’s cricketing fraternity.
