No Legal Remedy for Broken Poll Promises: Pawan Kalyan

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Thursday said there was no legal mechanism to punish politicians for failing to fulfil electoral promises, stressing that the most effective accountability lay with voters during elections.

Addressing a youth interaction programme titled ‘Janasenani with Gen Z’ here, Mr. Pawan Kalyan observed that while public disappointment over unfulfilled promises was understandable, not all leaders could be branded irresponsible. “Most politicians make promises with good intentions, but ground realities and practical constraints may sometimes hinder their implementation,” he said.

He emphasized that political leaders should only make commitments after thoroughly assessing feasibility and available resources. Simultaneously, he urged citizens, especially the youth, to actively challenge leaders and demand transparency when commitments are not fulfilled.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan asserted that meaningful change would come only when a critical mass of people consistently raised their voices. “Sustained public pressure forces governments and leaders to respond, deliver, or at least take issues seriously,” he noted.

Responding to a question on corruption, the Deputy Chief Minister said the issue was complex and multifaceted, making it difficult to address in a uniform manner. However, he expressed concern over practices such as cash-for-votes, describing them as a serious threat to democratic values and electoral integrity.

Encouraging young people to play a proactive role in nation-building, he urged them to balance their rights with their responsibilities. “Awareness, discipline, and active participation are essential if we want to see real progress,” he said.

He also reminded the audience of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle and called for collective efforts to build a stronger and more self-reliant India. “Every citizen must recognise the value of freedom and contribute towards making India a global power,” he added.
