NTPC Simhadri Hosts Mega Eye Camp, 525 Rural Residents Screened
NTPC Simhadri, in partnership with Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital, Visakhapatnam, conducted a major eye screening camp at Kalapaka Gram Panchayat on Thursday as part of its CSR health programmes.
The camp was inaugurated by S. Padmapriya, General Manager (Technical Services), in the presence of senior NTPC officials, Kalapaka Sarpanch Bonda Kanakarao, and panchayat staff. Padmapriya said the initiative reflects NTPC’s focus on preventive healthcare and support for rural communities.
Though the camp was planned for residents within a five kilometre radius, more than 525 people attended from Kalapaka and nearby villages including Parawada, Vennelapalem, Pittavanipalem, Devada, Vada Cheepurupalli, Gollapeta, Moola Swyambhuvaram and Marisivanpeta.
Doctors screened participants for refractive errors, cataract and other vision problems. A total of 395 people received free spectacles, 239 were given medication and 39 were identified for cataract or specialised surgeries. Sankar Foundation will perform the procedures and offer two free post-operative doorstep check-ups.
Residents welcomed the camp, saying it helped identify eye issues early and reduced the need to travel long distances. NTPC Simhadri officials said similar health programmes will continue in neighbouring villages.
