NTPC to Fund ₹41.5 Cr Solar, Robotic Surgery Units at HBCH&RC.
NTPC Simhadri has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC) for setting up a 3 MW solar power plant and a robotic surgery facility at the hospital under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Officials said NTPC will provide CSR funding of ₹41.5 crore, including ₹15 crore for the solar power plant and ₹26.5 crore for the procurement and installation of robotic surgery equipment. The project is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2028.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening advanced and affordable cancer care for patients from Visakhapatnam, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, and neighbouring districts.
The robotic surgery facility will enable minimally invasive procedures, improve surgical precision, and ensure faster recovery for patients. The solar power plant will provide sustainable energy support and help reduce the hospital’s operational costs.
HBCH&RC Director Umesh Mahantshetty said the partnership with NTPC would strengthen advanced oncology services and expand access to modern cancer treatment for patients in the region. He said the support for robotic surgery and renewable energy infrastructure would improve the hospital’s treatment capabilities while ensuring affordable care for more patients.
NTPC Simhadri Head of Project Ayaskanta Jena said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to community welfare and sustainable development, adding that the project integrates renewable energy with advanced medical technology to benefit the wider community.
The MoA signing was attended by P.V. Ram Krishna, Chief Administrative Officer, HBCH&RC; B.B. Patra, AGM (HR), NTPC; and Suneetha, DCA, HBCH&RC, among others.
The support of NTPC Ltd., under its CSR Strategic activities is one of the major initiatives towards Health front, and the same is being implemented through Simhadri Station as HQs of NTPC Ltd., New Delhi assigned this CSR activity to Simhadri.
